April 12: It's Not All Bad

Last night after the plumber left, we realized that there were some serious cracks in the part of the shower pan that extends up and would eventually be behind the wall of the shower.  Even so, it would increase the likelihood for leaking and water damage later so we asked that it be fixed.  In the process of uninstalling it, they had to remove the sheetrock.  I am glad I was not at home--I'm sure much swearing and grumbling was involved.

The bad news is the shower pan completely broke when they removed it, and it will be April 21 before there's a replacement ready.  The good news is our plumber is so unhappy about it that he is going to replace ALL the water intake valves, connections, and feedlines in the whole house--both bathrooms, kitchen, and washing machine--for free to make up for it.

In the long run, we will be glad that it worked out this way, I'm sure.

Good call on requesting the fix. It's a bit of a pain now, but nothing compared to the mess that could have resulted from water damage behind the walls. Sounds like you have a good plumber, too.

Why don't you just move the outside wall out and make a REAL bathroom?
