December 21: The Fab 4 (and their moms)

Today for lunch we went to Red Robin with Eldon's Interlake swim team buddies, and all the moms.  Yuji, Eldon, Alex, and Victor (from left to right) won the 200 Medley Relay at state in February, thanks in large part to Yuji who swam an incredible freestyle anchor leg (they also set a school record in the process).  All four of them graduated together in June, and are now at college.   Yuji is just across the lake at University of Washington, Eldon is at BYU (you already knew that), Alex is at Colorado State, and Victor is clear across the country at Princeton.

It was so much fun to sit and visit over lunch, and hear about the boys' first semester at school.  And, it was great for me to be able to catch up with the moms (though Loma--Alex's mom--and I see each other at school every day).  The boys (and the moms) became good friends over their four years on the Interlake team, and they left behind a very impressive legacy.  The 4 of them were responsible for 4 first-place finishes at state, 3 new school records, and numerous district records.  They also re-established the swim program at Interlake, and their efforts live on in this year's team.  We have a bond of friendship that will endure, long after those records are broken.
