Tonight was the 5th Annual Division 5 Sprint Meet. It was renamed the Christine Hillier Memorial Sprint Meet in 2009, in memory of Christine who first organized the meet in 2007 and who passed away June 25, 2009, at the age of 41 as a result of a postoperative infection. Her death still leaves a huge hole in the Woodridge community. She loved swimming and loved bringing people together for a good time. I am proud to say her legacy lives on in this sprint meet. It truly is a fun, friendship-building meet. All 5 teams in our division participate, and everyone swims a 25-yard length of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle (like an individual medley, but broken into 4 separate events), and then the 4 times are added together for a combined time. The top 3 combined times in each category receive medals. In addition to the standard youth age categories, we also have 19-39 and 40-over categories, which are a real hoot to watch. I think Christine would be proud of her legacy.
In the boys 15-18 category, Eldon took 1st with a new meet record of 49.03 seconds, and Jason looked extremely good, posting a 1:05.42 for 2nd place.
