August 5: Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity Jog

This afternoon, as I was leaving to meet Rob at his sister's house, the boys showed up, a day earlier than expected.  Their kayaking high adventure trip was indeed an adventure, just not the one they had planned.  Instead of making it to Lake Roosevelt in Eastern Washington for a 40-mile kayaking trip, followed by a motorboat for support, they ended up at Keechelus Lake just east of Snoqualmie Pass.  As they were coming over the top of Snoqualmie summit, the rear axle of the boat trailer SNAPPED IN TWO, causing all manner of mayhem, but no accidents or injuries (thank goodness).  Jason and his friend Palmer were in the truck that was pulling the trailer.  To make a long story short, they went to Keechelus Lake and camped and did much smaller and shorter kayaking excursions in the lake.  It was a fun trip, but not exactly a "high adventure."

The group all agreed to come home a day early.  They did not want to spend another $40/night and there was really not much else to do.  Also, all the boys had packed for 4 days in Eastern Washington in much hotter temperatures, so they didn't have the warm clothing or bedding necessary for camping in the Cascade Foothills.

One other good reason to come home early was the mosquitos:  I don't know if there would have been much left of Jason if they had stayed another day.  He looks like that EVERYWHERE.

Wow - the axle broke in half??? Good grief! Well, even if it wasn't the adventure they had planned, it will make a good story. Especially if they include the photo of Jason's mosquito bites.

PS - Every time we pulled into our driveway after a trip, my mom would say, "Jiggity jig." Are you two secretly related?
